Craftsmanship

  • The inkstand features vibrant enamel work in cloisonné, a technique that uses fine metal wires to create decorative compartments filled with enamel.
  • Its dominant color is a deep cerulean blue, which sets a rich background for intricate floral and scroll motifs in crimson, ivory, and gold.
  • Two stylized curved arms extend from either side of the base as ornamental flourishes.

  • At the center sits a lidded inkwell, topped with a finial that resembles a small ornamental knob or flame.
  • The inkwell is coated in cloisonné designs, matching the stand’s overall motif.
  • The base and mounts are made of bronze.
