French Cloisonné Enamel Inkstand
- Overall Design and Materials: The inkstand features cloisonné enamel on a gilt bronze base.
- Cloisonné Enamel Work: cloisonné enamel. The technique for cloisonné enamel involves delicate metal wires (cloisons) forming distinct cells on the surface, which are then filled with richly colored enamel pastes and fired. The visible patterns feature elaborate designs in a palette that includes hues of blue, turquoise, and cream. The fine gilt metal wires elegantly delineate each color and shape.
- Inkwell and Pen: The inkstand features a single, central inkwell topped with a hinged lid with a finial. Resting in a dedicated holder across the front of the base is a dip pen.
