This is a detailed brass inkwell sculpted in the form of a seated fox holding its prey in its mouth. The fox is depicted in a lifelike pose, with its body upright and alert. The sculptor has paid close attention to the texture of the fox’s fur, rendering it with numerous fine lines and variations in depth to create a realistic appearance. The fox’s ears are perked, and its eyes are focused. The fox’s bushy tail curls around its back. In its mouth, the fox holds a bird, its captured prey. The bird’s form is also detailed, with visible feathers. The top portion of the fox’s back and head is hinged. When it is opened, one has access to the inkwell.
