This inkwell was designed to resemble an early 20th-century racing car, complete with a driver wearing a cap and goggles. The car features intricate details such as spoked wheels, a front grille, and a spare tire. It was likely made to commemorate the Gordon Bennett races, which were prestigious automobile races held annually from 1900 to 1905, initiated by James Gordon Bennett Jr., owner of the New York Herald.
