A “Divit” is a traditional Ottoman pen case and inkwell, often used by scribes and calligraphers. It typically consists of a long, narrow case for holding pens and a small inkwell attached to it. The divit was designed to be portable, allowing writers to carry their writing tools with them easily. These cases, as with the one pictured, were often beautifully decorated with intricate designs, calligraphy, and motifs, reflecting the high value placed on the art of writing in Ottoman culture.
