Citron Green Cone Ink Bottle

Categories Ink Bottle
Material Glass
Manufacturer Undetermined
Origin United States

This is a vintage hand-blown glass ink bottle with a distinctive conical shape. The glass exhibits a textured and somewhat uneven surface, a hallmark of the hand-blowing process, and its color ranges from light to medium green with variations in tone throughout. Visible bubbles are trapped within the glass, further indicating its artisanal or older production. A clear mold line runs vertically down the side of the bottle, confirming that while hand-blown techniques were employed, the overall shape was achieved using a mold, likely made in multiple sections.

The bottle features a stable, wider rounded base that gradually tapers upwards to a narrower cylindrical neck. A noticeable rounded shoulder or bulge encircles the glass just below the neck. The neck itself is relatively short and terminates in a slightly flared and somewhat irregular rim.

The combination of hand-blown characteristics, such as the unique texture and trapped air, alongside the evidence of molding through the seam line, suggests a manufacturing process where molten glass was introduced into a mold and then expanded by a glass blower’s breath to conform to the mold’s shape. The imperfections in the glass, rather than detracting, contribute to the ink bottle’s vintage or rustic charm.
