This Bohemian art glass inkwell was crafted by the renowned glassworks of the Wilhelm Kralik family. The inkwell showcases the characteristic “Spiraloptisch” décor, featuring a mesmerizing pattern of concentric rings and wavy lines that undulate across the surface of the glass. These swirling motifs create a sense of depth and movement, catching the light in a captivating manner.

The glass itself exhibits a rich, iridescent sheen, a hallmark of Bohemian art glass from this period. The colors shift and shimmer depending on the angle of light, displaying a base color of deep green that transitions into vibrant metallic hues of gold and purple within the swirling design. This iridescent effect was often achieved through the application of metallic oxides to the hot glass surface.

The inkwell has a somewhat square form with rounded edges, typical of the Art Nouveau style which often blended organic and structured elements. The “Spiraloptisch” decoration is seamlessly integrated into these contours, enhancing the overall aesthetic. The hinged lid of the inkwell is made of bronze. It has a rounded, slightly domed form and is adorned with a stylized floral or foliate design in relief.
