This Art Deco style inkstand features a sitting dog cast in spelter metal, set against a polished black onyx base. With its upright ears and build, it resembles a German Shepherd.
Towards the front of the inkstand, two smaller figures of ducks are positioned facing inwards. Their wings are spread, and their beaks are open, forming a pen holder.
To the right of the dog figure, there is a lidded inkwell. The inkwell is also made of the same silver-toned metal and features a stepped, geometric design with concentric circular elements on the hinged lid, typical of Art Deco sensibilities.
Based on the stylized animal figures, the geometric design of the inkwell, and the use of contrasting materials with a focus on sleek lines, this inkstand embodies the Art Deco style. This influential visual arts design movement flourished internationally from the 1920s through the 1930s.
