This brass inkwell has a circular base with a shallow, dished form. The edge of the base is subtly scalloped. The surface of the base is ornamented with etched Art Deco stylized designs.
Rising from the center of the base is the inkwell itself. It has a cylindrical form with a slightly wider base where it meets the dished tray. The inkwell is topped with a lid featuring concentric rings of stylized florals geometric designs.
The marking “Ges. Gesch.” on the bottom is a German abbreviation for “Gesetzlich Geschützt”, which translates to “legally protected” or “patent pending”. This mark indicates that the design of the inkwell was registered for protection under German law.
